Red Cafe on Mission Street is a busy, no-frills spot where locals gather for solid Latin American and Mexican-inspired breakfast and brunch. It’s the kind of place that hums with neighborhood energy—servers move briskly among packed tables, and chatter flows easily between friends and regulars. While it’s not a quiet café for lounging over one coffee, you’ll find yourself surrounded by familiar faces grabbing hearty morning plates and strong refills of coffee.

The menu leans heavily into classic breakfast diner fare infused with Latin flavors. Dishes like chilaquiles served crisp with salsa and beans on the side, huevos rancheros, and carne options like steak fajitas hold a prominent place here. Those craving comfort will appreciate the generous portions of oatmeal pancakes, corned beef hash, and the ever-popular scrambled eggs with fresh veggies and cheese. Portions tend to be large, so come hungry or plan to take leftovers.

Mornings and weekend brunch hours bring the full bustle, and the occasional wait is part of the experience. Despite the crowd, the staff keeps things moving efficiently and with a neighborly warmth that makes you feel like you’re part of the neighborhood rhythm. Coffee and mocha drinks are well-regarded and frequently topped off without having to ask.

This place suits those who want a vibrant, local breakfast scene with a touch of Latin American flair and a menu broad enough to please groups with diverse tastes—from pancake lovers to those after a savory plate piled high. Visiting mid-morning or early afternoon might ease some of the wait, but anytime before noon will find you among steady, chatty patrons nursing their coffee and enjoying the casual diner vibe that’s very much woven into the Mission District fabric.

The Red Cafe is where he promised us breakfast, and I was all in! Twas non other than Pinkus Magoo that said he'd spot for breakfast, but...Thar be a catch. ..Ol Pinkus needed a Joint Wasser for his Pixitillier so he could go to Burning Man and be the talk of the town, and in his words...I be the only 89 year old that can still wag his tail with the best of um! First time in the Red Cafe for me. The Red Cafe is a pleasant place full of local flavors and friendly neighbors, where most people know each other's names. The breakfast was simple, fresh and delicious, delivered hot under an unassuming smile. 5 stars

Red Cafe is the place for classic and delicious breakfast/ brunch dishes. The place gets packed and there’s usually a wait, but it goes by fast! I love their fluffy pancakes and French toast the most! Although they offer a variety of other dishes that you may like too.

Delicious food! Tried most savory items on the menu, all were fantastic. It might be that I am always starving when I go, but each time hits so hard. I recommend the Chilaquiles. They do them crispy-style, with salsa and beans on the side. The staff is neighborly, and quick to refill your coffee. The manager looks like Bob Hoskins.

Good spot for tasty, filling breakfasts. I LOVED the oatmeal pancakes and liked the corned beef hash (though it's not quite as exciting as it looks). The eggs, sausage, and toast were nice but standard. Portions were very large - prepare for leftovers unless you're very hungry. Service was efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere was nice - lots of locals coming in and chatting, giving it a real neighborhood feel. Décor was simple but nice, and interior was breezy and pleasant. Good spot for breakfast in the mission.

THE BEST BREAKFAST IN SF!! They have the best breakfast in SF. Whether you want the traditional or Latino breakfast, everything is always DELICIOUS. customer service is also great. I used to come to this place almost every weekend when I lived in SF. Now, every time I’m in town, this is still one of my to stops.
